SANTA CLARA LIONS SOCCER

Participate in as many tryouts or team practices as possible. Multiple tryouts provide a better understanding of the expectation and experience playing on a competitive soccer team.

Tryouts

After registering to tryout an email confirmation will be sent within 48 hours of registration. The email will provides specifics for the tryout:

exact dates and times for tryouts
driving directions to the tryout location
required waivers to provide coach at your first tryout date

We encourage players trying out for a Santa Clara Lions Soccer Team to participate in as many tryouts and/or team practices as possible. When players participate in multiple tryouts they get a better understanding of expectations and experience playing on a competitive soccer team. More exposure during tryouts allows players to meet potential teammates and coaches to assess if the environment is a good fit before a full commitment.

Participating in multiple tryouts also provides the coaching staff the ability to evaluate the players skills, understanding of soccer tactics, and the coach-ability of the player.

Following the tryouts you will receive notification of acceptance within seven days of the player’s final tryout attendance. There will be a short window to accept the spot offered, and to complete registration.

Fees

Uniforms

If you tryout and are invited to a team, you are required to purchase a uniform at Soccer Kraze in Campbell. The club assigns a player number, and the uniform can be ordered (call or online) and picked-up at Soccer Kraze when it’s ready. The uniform cost, approximately $160 to $180.

Financial Aid

We do offer Financial Aid for regular season play. If you need financial aid and have received an invitation to play please contact our treasurer directly at jamiehickox@sbcglobal.net prior to registration.

Tryout FAQs

When does training start if my player makes the team?

If your player is accepted & registered he/she can begin practicing immediately. Fall season runs August – mid December. Spring season runs January – end of June.
Break for all national holidays, half of December through the new year, and some SCUSD school breaks.

How often do the Santa Clara Lions practice?

Teams practice 1-2 times a week on permitted city fields, and practice time changes occur within the year due to availability for the entire SCYSL umbrella (which includes all three tiers). Please note that parents need to be aware that changes do occur and must be flexible, as we are only given options and do not make the schedule.

Where are the practice locations?

The locations of practices are held at either Santa Clara Youth Soccer Park or Reed and Grant Complex.

What are the costs involved with playing on the Lions?

2024-25 Santa Clara Lions Soccer:

Registration for August 2024 to 2025 – will be communicated upon acceptance
(This includes facility fees, coaching fees, two tournaments a year, ref fees, training 2x a week.)

Uniforms – $160 to 180

Extra tournament fees (depending on the team) – $100 to 300

Is financial aid available for families who need it?

Are refunds available?

Refunds are only granted for one of two reasons:

Relocation outside of Santa Clara County (property purchase/lease agreement documentation required)

– or –

Medical Reasons (doctors note on official letterhead required)
