SANTA CLARA LIONS SOCCER
Participate in as many tryouts or team practices as possible. Multiple tryouts provide a better understanding of the expectation and experience playing on a competitive soccer team. Tryouts are held at Reed and Grant Sports Complex in Santa Clara.

Santa Clara Lions Soccer
All tryouts are held at Reed and Grant Sports Complex in Santa Clara.
After registering, you will receive an email in the weeks leading up to the tryout window. Competitive soccer tryouts occur every six months — in May and November.
The email will include:
- Exact dates and times for your tryouts
- Driving directions to the tryout location
- Required waivers to bring to your first tryout
We strongly encourage players to attend as many tryouts and/or team practices as possible. More participation allows players to better understand expectations, meet potential teammates, and experience the competitive environment before committing.
It also gives coaches more opportunities to evaluate a player’s skills, soccer IQ, and coachability.
Following the tryout window, you will receive a notification regarding:
- Acceptance onto a team, or
- Recommendations for other options.
If offered a spot, there will be a short window to accept and complete registration.
Fees
Annual Fees:
- 2018 – 2014 birth years: $1,950 per year
- 2013 – 2008 birth years: $2,025 per year
- Premier Level Teams: $2,500 (includes State Cup Tournament)
- All Fees include year-round training (December break for the holidays).
- Covers two tournaments per year in Northern California. (Tournament fees included in registration.)
Uniforms
If you tryout and are invited to a team, you are required to purchase a uniform at Soccer Kraze in Campbell. The club assigns a player number, and the uniform can be ordered (call or online) and picked-up at Soccer Kraze when it’s ready. The uniform cost, approximately $160 to $180.
Financial Aid
We do offer Financial Aid for regular season play. If you need financial aid and have received an invitation to play please contact our treasurer directly at jamiehickox@sbcglobal.net prior to registration.
TRYOUT FAQs
When does training start if my player makes the team?
If your player is accepted and registered, they may begin practicing immediately.
- Fall Season: August – mid-December
- Spring Season: January – end of June
We break for all national holidays, the second half of December, and some SCUSD school breaks.
How often do Santa Clara Lions teams practice?
Teams practice two or three times per week (depending on age) on permitted city fields.
Please note that practice times may change throughout the year due to overall field availability under the SCYSL umbrella (covering all three tiers).
Parents must remain flexible, as the city allocates available field times and the club does not control the schedule.
Where are the practice locations?
Practices are held at:
- Santa Clara Youth Soccer Park
- Reed and Grant Sports Complex
What are the other costs involved with playing for the Lions?
2025–26 Santa Clara Lions Soccer
- Registration Fee: (August 2025 – June 2026) — details provided upon acceptance
(Includes facility fees, coaching fees, two tournaments per year, referee fees, and two to three practices per week.) - Uniform Cost: $160 – $180
- Extra Tournament Fees: $100 – $300 (depending on the team)
Is financial aid available?
Yes! Financial aid is available for regular season play.

Are refunds available?
Refunds are only granted for the following reasons:
- Relocation outside Santa Clara County (documentation of property purchase/lease required), or
- Medical Reasons (doctor’s note on official letterhead required).
After registering to tryout an email will be sent in the weeks leading up to the tryout. Tryout windows in comp soccer are every 6 months in May and November.The email will provide specifics for the tryout.
